As the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, The Railroad Sock proudly celebrates 125 years of American-made tradition. Founded in 1901 in Mohnton, PA to serve local rail workers, the brand has since relocated to Grain Valley, Missouri and grown into one of the oldest sock companies in the country.
Today, with over 120 styles in work, sport, and leisure—including innovative new products like our Health Trak +Rx line — Railroad Sock continues to deliver quality, comfort, and durability for the whole family. Our mission remains the same: premium socks made in the USA at competitive prices.

The Railroad Sock namesake comes from the work socks we knitted for railworkers at the turn of the 20th Century. While those exact socks have long been retired (and believe us, we still get calls asking about very old models), the spirit of the work sock lives on. And now in much nicer products, thanks to advances in sock design and knitting technology. We'd like to think those railworkers would've loved to have the options we have today!

As a brutal Arctic Blast struck America this month, bringing ice and snow to even traditionally warmer states, these Midwesterners wanted to share some tips for winter survival...at least for your feet!
Naturally, the top choice for cold weather is Wool. They're basically sweaters for your feet! Here are some of our favorite thick, wool socks that are sure to keep your toes nice & toasty:
- 2964: Our "go-to" for frigid days. These socks are thick & soft thanks to the full terry cushioning that also provides insulation for maximum heat retention.
- 2962: Rising a little higher than 2964's, these Outdoor Striped Boot Socks not only look good, but they feature the same insulating & soft terry cushioning.

ASK THE SOCK QUEEN
WHAT IS TERRY CUSHIONING?
You'll see the term "Terry Cushion" used in a lot of our product descriptions, but what exactly does that mean?
Also known as "terry loops", they're actually small, soft loops of yarn that provide a plush, thicker feel to the interior of our socks. Usually found in the foot bottom, we also offer complete foot cushioning (foot bottom, tops, toes, & ankles) and even full cushioning for a premium experience. That means the terry loops completely encase the foot and go all the way up the leg.
Now, Terry Cushioning doesn't just feel pillowy soft, it also provides important functional benefits. In the wintertime, those loops trap your body heat to provide insulation. And when the warmer temps finally return, they can actually help keep your feet dry by wicking away moisture. All that while feeling great too, so keep an eye out for Terry Cushioning during your hunt for your new favorite socks.
